# Give an AI a Solana wallet with limits

> AI apps such as Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and Cursor can use tools through MCP, the Model Context Protocol. Connected to a wallet, an AI can read balances and prepare moves. The safe way is to give it limits: what it may do on its own, up to how much a day.

## What MCP is

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard Anthropic introduced in November 2024 for connecting AI apps to outside tools. An MCP server offers tools such as "list wallets" or "send"; an AI app that supports MCP can call them while it works for you. Claude, Claude Code, Cursor and ChatGPT all support MCP connections.

For a wallet, that means you can ask in plain words: "What do my trading wallets hold?", "Move everything from the test folder into Savings", "Clean up the wallets with dust".

## The risk

An AI that can sign transactions can lose money as fast as it can make them. It can misread you, get confused by a coin's name, or be steered by text it reads: coin names and descriptions are written by strangers, and some are written to trick AIs. So the question is not whether to trust the AI, but what it can do without you.

## Limits that work

Good limits have three parts:

1. **Per kind of move.** Reading balances is harmless. Sending to a new address is not. Each kind of move should have its own setting.
2. **Three settings for each**: ask me first, go on its own up to an amount, or go on its own.
3. **A daily total** across everything, so a run of small moves cannot add up to a large one.

Add to that a way to pause every AI at once, and a log of everything each AI did.

## Setting it up

The pattern is the same in every MCP app: add the wallet's MCP address as a connector or server, sign in once to say which wallets it may see, then set its limits in the wallet. In Claude Code, for example, that is one `claude mcp add` command with the server's address.

Start read only. Watch what the AI asks to do for a while, then open up the moves you are happy with.

## How Raven does it

AI access is off until you connect an AI. When you do, it starts read only. Then, for each kind of move (send, split, consolidate, swap, clean up and more), you choose: ask me first, go up to an amount, or go on its own, all under a daily total you set. Moves that need asking wait in a list for you to approve or refuse; raising a limit or switching a paused AI back on needs your password. Every move an AI makes is in your Activity, and coin names are marked to the AI as text written by strangers.

Raven does not run any AI itself. You connect your own: Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or Cursor.

## Questions

### Can an AI steal my crypto?

Only as far as you let it. With limits per move and a daily total, the most it can move without asking is the total you set.

### Does the AI see my private keys?

It should not, and in Raven it does not: keys stay locked in your browser, and the AI asks Raven to make a move, which Raven checks against your limits before anything is signed.

### Which AI apps work with Solana wallets?

Any app that supports MCP: Claude, Claude Code, Cursor and ChatGPT among them.
