# SOL to Monero and back: breaking the trail between two wallets

> Swapping SOL into Monero and back out to a different Solana wallet ends the trail on Solana: the new wallet is paid from a payout that has nothing to do with yours. Through Husher it takes about 5 minutes and costs 0.7% plus 0.008 SOL.

## Why Monero

Monero (XMR) is built to hide what Solana shows. Every Monero payment:

- signs with a ring of 16 possible senders, so nobody can tell which one actually spent;
- pays a one-time address, so payments to the same person cannot be linked;
- hides the amount.

So when SOL leaves Solana as Monero, the trail on Solana stops at the swap. When it comes back as SOL to a different wallet, it arrives from the swap service's payout, not from you.

## How a SOL to Monero to SOL hop works

1. You send SOL from your wallet to a swap service's one-time deposit address.
2. The service swaps it into Monero, moves it inside Monero, and swaps it back.
3. The service pays SOL to the wallet you named.

On Solana you see two unrelated transfers: your wallet paying the service, and a payout to the new wallet. Nothing on chain says they are the same money.

## What it costs and how long

| | Through Monero (Husher) | For comparison: exchange pays |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Time | About 5 minutes | About 30 seconds |
| Fee | 0.7% plus 0.008 SOL | 0.35% plus 0.001 SOL |
| Smallest amount | 0.13 SOL | 0.02 SOL |
| 1 SOL sent, lands | about 0.985 SOL | about 0.996 SOL |

## What it does not hide

- **The service sees both ends** while the order runs: your paying wallet and the receiving wallet. You are trusting it with the SOL for those minutes.
- **Amounts and timing** on Solana are still public. 10 SOL out and 9.9 SOL in five minutes later can be matched by anyone watching both wallets. Splitting into parts at different times helps.
- **Your IP address** can be logged by the service.

## Buying Monero on an exchange instead

Many big exchanges have stopped trading Monero; Binance delisted it in 2024. Swap services that need no account are now the usual way between SOL and XMR, and the same rule applies to all of them: you are trusting the service for the length of the swap.

## How Raven does it

In Raven's Send, choose Private and Through Monero. You can split the amount into up to five parts, each with its own exchange and its own wait of up to a day, so the payouts do not line up with what left your wallet. The review shows Husher's fee, the minimum and what lands before anything is signed.

## Questions

### Is it legal to swap SOL to Monero?

Holding and swapping Monero is legal in most countries, but some exchanges and countries restrict it. Check where you live.

### Is SOL to Monero to SOL more private than an exchange payout?

Usually, yes: the money passes through a chain that hides senders and amounts, rather than one exchange's records. The swap service still sees both ends while it works.

### Why is the minimum 0.13 SOL?

The route pays network fees on Solana and Monero and two swaps, so very small amounts would lose most of their value.
