# How to swap SOL to USDC, and what it really costs

> To swap SOL to USDC, open the swap screen in your wallet or on Jupiter, pick SOL to pay and USDC to receive, check the quote and confirm. The app’s own fee is the big cost: from 0% to 0.85% depending on where you swap.

## The steps

Every Solana wallet does this the same way:

1. Open **Swap** (Phantom calls it **Swap** in the extension and **Trade** in the app).
2. Pick **SOL** as the coin you pay with and **USDC** as the coin you get.
3. Type the amount of SOL.
4. Read the quote: how much USDC you get, the fees and the price impact.
5. Confirm and sign.

It lands in a few seconds. Phantom's and Solflare's help pages walk through the same steps on their own screens: [Phantom](https://help.phantom.com/hc/en-us/articles/5985106844435-Swap-crypto-in-Phantom), [Solflare](https://help.solflare.com/en/articles/6134622-how-to-swap-tokens-within-solflare-desktop).

If you swap on a website instead, go to [jup.ag](https://jup.ag) by typing it yourself, not through an ad or a link someone sent you. Fake swap sites are a common way wallets get drained. See [how drainers work](/blog/solana-wallet-drainers).

## Make sure it is real USDC

Anyone can make a coin and call it USDC. The real one on Solana is issued by Circle, and its full address is:

`EPjFWdd5AufqSSqeM2qN1xzybapC8G4wEGGkZwyTDt1v`

That is the address in the explorer links on [Circle's USDC on Solana page](https://www.circle.com/multi-chain-usdc/solana). Compare every character, not just the start and the end. Scammers make fake coins whose addresses share the same first and last few characters, so a match on "EPjF" and "Dt1v" alone proves nothing. Your wallet usually marks the real one as verified, but the full address is the check that counts. If any character is different, it is not Circle's coin.

Circle also says USDC is redeemable 1:1 for US dollars, but only businesses with a Circle Mint account can redeem with Circle directly. Everyone else turns USDC into dollars through an exchange.

## What it costs

A SOL to USDC swap has up to five costs. Only the first one is large.

| Cost | What it is | Typical size |
| --- | --- | --- |
| App fee | The wallet's or site's own cut | 0% to 0.85% |
| Network fee | Paid to Solana, per signature | 0.000005 SOL, plus any priority fee |
| Pool fees and price impact | The pools' cut and how far your trade moves the price | Small for SOL and USDC, both are heavily traded |
| Slippage | How much worse than the quote you allow | Your setting, 0.5% is Solflare's default |
| Token account | A refundable deposit the first time you hold USDC | 0.00149 SOL |

### The app fee

This is where the money goes. Here is what each app lists for a SOL to USDC swap, as of October 2026:

| Where you swap | Fee | On $1,000 of SOL |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Jupiter on the web, Manual mode | 0% | $0.00 |
| Jupiter on the web, Ultra mode | 0% to 0.5% by pair | Up to $5.00 |
| Jupiter Mobile, in the app's own swap | 0.1% | $1.00 |
| Raven | 0.4% | $4.00 |
| Phantom | 0.85% | $8.50 |

_From each app's own fee page. Jupiter says Ultra mode charges less on stable, heavily traded pairs and more on new or volatile coins, but does not list an exact rate for SOL to USDC._

Phantom does not charge its 0.85% when you swap stablecoins into its Cash account, but SOL to USDC is not one of those swaps. For the wider list, see [swap fees compared](/blog/solana-wallet-swap-fees-compared) and [Phantom fees explained](/blog/phantom-fees).

### The network fee

Solana's base fee is 5,000 lamports a signature, which is 0.000005 SOL. Apps often add a priority fee to get the swap in faster. Either way it is a fraction of a cent for most swaps, and Jupiter notes the network fee is paid even if the trade fails. More in [Solana fees explained](/blog/solana-network-fees).

### Slippage

The price can move between the quote and the moment your swap lands. Slippage is the most it may move before the swap is cancelled. For SOL to USDC the default or auto setting is fine. Raising it lets the swap fill at a worse price, so leave it alone unless a swap keeps failing.

### The USDC token account

The first time a wallet holds USDC, Solana opens a token account for it. That account has to hold a small deposit, called rent: 1,488,440 lamports, about 0.00149 SOL, since September 2026. It is not spent. You get it back if you later empty the account and close it. See [Solana rent explained](/blog/solana-rent-explained).

## Keep some SOL back

Do not swap every last bit of SOL. Your wallet needs SOL to pay network fees for the next thing you do, including swapping back. Solflare's help page suggests keeping at least 0.05 SOL, because some swaps go through several routes.

If you do run out, Jupiter can do a gasless swap: someone else pays the network fee and the cost is added to your swap fee. Jupiter only offers this when your wallet holds less than 0.01 SOL and the trade is big enough, about $10 or more.

## A worked example

Say you swap $1,000 of SOL to USDC:

- **In Phantom**, $8.50 comes out of what you receive, plus the network fee.
- **In Jupiter Mobile**, $1.00 plus the network fee.
- **If it is your first USDC**, 0.00149 SOL also goes into the new token account, and you can get it back later.

On one swap the gap is a few dollars. If you move between SOL and USDC every week, it adds up to hundreds a year.

## Swapping from many wallets

If your SOL sits in many wallets, swapping each one by hand means a quote, a signature and a token account each time. Raven swaps any coin to any coin through Jupiter, from one wallet or many at once, with one review before anything is signed. Its swap fee is 0.4%, and stablecoin to stablecoin swaps are free. Every fee is its own line on the review. Raven is invite only for now: join the [waitlist](/waitlist) and you get an email when it is your turn. More on the [about page](/about).

## Questions

### What is the cheapest way to swap SOL to USDC?

Jupiter's own swap in Manual mode lists no Jupiter fee, and Jupiter Mobile charges 0.1% on SOL to stablecoin swaps. You still pay the network fee everywhere.

### Why did I get less USDC than the quote?

The price moved before the swap landed, within the slippage you allowed. The app fee is also taken out of what you receive.

### Why did my wallet spend extra SOL on my first USDC swap?

It opened a USDC token account, which holds about 0.00149 SOL as a deposit. You get it back if you empty and close that account.

### How do I turn USDC into dollars in my bank?

Send it to an exchange that supports USDC on Solana, sell it there and withdraw. Circle only redeems directly for businesses with a Circle Mint account.
