How to create multiple Solana wallets: one phrase or separate keys

To create multiple Solana wallets, add accounts under one recovery phrase for wallets you keep, and use separate keys or a second phrase for wallets you expect to risk. If one phrase leaks, every wallet on it is lost. If one key leaks, one wallet is lost.

The choice that matters

Making a second wallet takes seconds and costs nothing until it holds SOL. The decision that lasts is what the wallets come from. If this is your first wallet, start with how to create a Solana wallet and come back.

Wallets from one phrase do not look related on chain. But each one is the same words with a different number at the end of its path, so anyone holding the phrase can walk through them and list them all. See seed phrase vs private key.

What a leak costs

Say you run 20 wallets with 0.5 SOL each, 10 SOL in all, or $972 at $97.17 a SOL (CoinGecko, 30 October 2026).

What leaksAll on one phraseAll separate keysSplit: 15 on a phrase, 5 on their own keys
The phrase10 SOLNothing, there is no phrase7.5 SOL
One wallet’s key0.5 SOL0.5 SOL0.5 SOL
A bad signature on one wallet0.5 SOL0.5 SOL0.5 SOL

Notice the bottom row. Signing something bad costs one wallet in every setup, because a transaction is signed by one wallet’s key. What the setup changes is how much rides on one secret.

The phrase has a second catch: it cannot be replaced. Phantom says a phrase “can’t be changed or replaced”. If it leaks, you make a new one and move every wallet by hand, racing whoever has it.

Separate keys have their own cost: 20 wallets means 20 backups. Lose one, and that wallet is gone.

Most people mix the two. One phrase for wallets that hold savings or long-term coins, kept away from every website. Separate keys or a second phrase for burner wallets you use with new sites.

How Phantom handles it

Phantom’s Create New Account “uses an existing recovery phrase”. On the extension it is on the Manage Accounts screen, and on the phone on the Home tab: press +, then Create New Account. You make them one at a time.

For anything separate, a different phrase, a private key, a Ledger or a watch-only address, Phantom uses Add another wallet. Three things to know:

  • Each source has its own backup. If you reset Phantom and restore with only your main phrase, “accounts from other sources don’t come back automatically”.
  • Removing an imported key deletes it. “Phantom doesn’t retain imported private keys after you remove the account.” Copy it first.
  • There is a soft ceiling. Phantom’s blog said up to 100 accounts in April 2023. Its help centre gives no number. See how many wallets Phantom can hold.

How Solflare handles it

In Solflare, click your wallet icon, then + Add wallet. You will see these options, per its guide (updated 14 May 2026):

  • Create a new wallet. A new wallet with its own private key. The guide says this works within your existing seed phrase.
  • Create a burner wallet, for connecting to sites you do not trust.
  • Import a private key. This brings in one wallet.
  • Import a recovery phrase. This brings “an entirely separate seed phrase” with its own wallets. Solflare scans for funded wallets, and you can pick which to add.
  • Connect a Ledger or Keystone.

Solflare warns that losing any one phrase “means losing access to the wallets tied to it”, and tells you to back up each one separately. Its guide states no maximum.

Raven’s three sources

Raven lets you pick the source each time, in New wallets:

SourceWhat you getIf that secret leaks
Fresh keysEach wallet gets its own new keyOne wallet
Your account’s phraseThe next wallets on your 12 wordsEvery wallet on those words
A new seed phraseNew 12 or 24 words, with wallets made from them in orderEvery wallet on that phrase

You can make up to 100 at a time and hold up to 1,000 per account. Each gets a name and a folder. Wallets from a phrase use Phantom’s path, m/44'/501'/n'/0', so that phrase opens the same wallets in both. You can also import existing phrases and keys.

One limit to be clear about: whatever the source, every wallet in Raven sits in one locked vault, and your password or your 12 words open it. See how your keys are kept. So fresh keys protect you when one key leaks, but not if someone gets your 12 words. Keep those offline.

After you make them

A new wallet has no account on chain until it receives SOL. Then it has to hold at least 0.00065024 SOL (read from mainnet, 30 October 2026, epoch 1072), which comes back when you empty it. So 100 funded wallets tie up about 0.065 SOL in deposits.

Funding is where wallets get tied together. If one wallet pays 20 new ones, anyone can see that on chain. See how to send SOL to many wallets. Past a few dozen, a Solana wallet manager keeps them in one list. In Raven, Split funds up to 20 wallets per run, free for 5 and then 0.0005 SOL each.

This page is about keeping your own money apart. It is not about posing as many people for an airdrop, and we do not cover that.

Questions

How many Solana wallets can I create?

As many as you like. A wallet is only a key pair, so the limits are in the apps. Phantom’s blog has said up to 100 accounts, and Raven holds up to 1,000 per account.

Can I create many wallets from one recovery phrase?

Yes. Phantom and Solflare both add accounts that way, and one backup covers them all. The catch is that anyone with the phrase gets all of them.

Is it safer to use a new phrase for each wallet?

It limits what one leak costs, but you then have one more backup per phrase, and losing any one loses its wallets. A common middle ground is one phrase for what you keep and separate keys for what you risk.

Do I need to fund every wallet?

Only when you use it. A wallet that has never held SOL has no account on chain and costs nothing.
